IVF is used when due to a medical reason a couple cannot conceive naturally like fallopian tubes are blocked or when a man has low sperm counts or any other reason . In IVF the women’s eggs are removed and fertilized with a man’s sperm in a laboratory. The women is given drugs to stimulate the ovary with appropriate monitoring to produce a higher number of eggs (avg 8 to 10). Then these are removed through transvaginal sonography under general anesthesia which require 3 to 4 hours of Hospitalization,. The Husband’s semen is collected and processed to separate the normal motile sperms. If the man is not available or unable to produce semen, a previously cryo preserved sample is used. The eggs and sperms are then allowed to fertilize and develop in the laboratory incubators for 2 to 5 days. The best 2 or at most 3, embryos are then put back into the uterus . All surplus good quality embryos are then preserved by vitrification for future use.
